I heard on the radio that Virginia Representative Tom Perriello has changed his position on the health care bill from "no" to "undecided" because the newest bill does not increase the deficit. That was enough to get me out of bed and begin writing the second "letter to an editor" I have written in the last 51 years. (The first letter followed the Federal government forcing the Citadel to admit women.) I was only angry then; the attack was only against tradition.
This time, I am afraid for nothing less that the freedom and liberty of all Americans. I am afraid for my country and, I am not alone. I have seen enough of Tom Perriello, Creigh Deeds, and Mark Warner to know that they are decent people who care about Virginia and the freedom of the people of United States of America. But, even at their best, they are not big enough to stop the radical liberal leaders that close-off reasonable debate; lock tax funded doors behind them; stampede our legislators to sign bills they can't read or understand; and promote division among Americans in an attempt to conquer nothing less than AMERICA ITSELF. If the road to hell is paved with the notion of good intentions, this health care bill is Congress's largest super highway ( stimulus money maybe?).
Getting uninsured people health care is a worthy intention that doesn’t look anything like tyranny but, "Free" government health care is without question, the unintended road to tyranny and enslavement. A government that can make you buy health insurance is driven to make you eat less if you are overweight. If you smoke or drink it is driven make you stop. If your behavior or lifestyle is risky, they can trade you "their" medicine for your behavioral change. If there are too many people to take care of, they can stop you from making new ones. If they say the sky is falling, they can literally stop you, your car, and your factory from exhaling.
If you earn "too" much more money than others, it can equalize your pay. If your house is too big, it can move you to a smaller, more equal house. If you drive too much or keep your house too warm or too cool, it can take away your energy. If you are too old or too expensive to keep alive, it will encourage you to "patriotically" die. If all this drives you to public prayer, it will attempt to stop that too.
A government who "gives" you health care can do every one of these things to you and your family--all with good intentions. However, if you are a supporter of "free" government health care, you need to know, that there's one thing that government cannot give you. It intentionally cannot give you back your freedom--only a freedom loving government can do that.
I’m glad that Mr. Perriello is making an attempt to read nearly 2000 pages of proposed government law over the weekend. I’m sure he has good intentions. But, if he and any other legislator votes YES on government take over of health care (regardless of what they name it), the whip of tyranny is in each one of their hands and that whip will leave blood stains on all of America.
